"I will help you finish your therapy with a sense of independence, empowerment and purpose in your life"

Who is Paulo Lazaro?

LCSW | CBT | EMDR | NLP

For more than twenty years I have been helping families, couples and adult individuals dealing with relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and traumas impacting their personal and/or professional lives. I am a psychotherapist fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish, licensed in the state of Florida since 1998.

My View

"Your goals and priorities are my goals and priorities as well. They will dictate the direction in which we will work together, be it to help you become more effective in your endeavors, improve your relationships, enjoy and/or develop a sense of purpose in your life. Every individual is unique and needs to be understood and helped as such. And … yes, people can change and psychotherapy can be an excellent tool in this growth and healing process."

Expertise and Approaches

Depression

During an episode of depression life is felt as a daily struggle, like walking in a quicksand field. Sometimes you feel like you don’t belong and is a burden to your loved ones… you just want to be left alone. Psychotherapy is proven to be an effective tool in overcoming depression.

Anxiety is that feeling of apprehension and fear that is manifested by a sense of a restless mind, shallow breathing, tachycardia and feeling like you are jumping out of your skin. Peaks of anxiety and panic attacks may bring us an impending sense of doom; strong sensations that make us fear that we may be having a heart attack, or worse. Psychotherapy is proven to be an effective tool in overcoming anxiety and panic attacks.

Trauma

Trauma is a limiting emotional response to an event, or series of events, that makes us feel very uncomfortable, sometimes to the point that we believe we could die from the experience. It may feel as if your mind, body and emotions are together conspiring against you. Psychotherapy has been shown to be very effective for many people in eliminating and/or reducing the effects of trauma.

The quality of the partners’ communication of their “wants and needs,” in addition to their individual motivation (conscious and/or unconscious) to be together, are essential in building a fulfilling relationship. Psychotherapy (for individuals and/or couples) has been proven to offer many people ways to clarify/understand those motivations and improve the effectiveness of the communication between the partners.

Relationship Issues

Approaches

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distresses that are often associated with disturbing life experiences. Nowadays, EMDR has been used to improve performances in a variety of fields, such as public speaking. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy much faster than traditional methods.

BIOENERGETIC

Bioenergetic works through the understanding of the correspondence between the body and its energetic processes and the mind. It allows for interventions on a physical level as well as on a psychological one. By directly engaging the body in the therapy, progress is accelerated and anchored in deeper and more permanent levels of awareness.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is based on several core principles, among them are that psychological problems are based, in part, on undesirable patterns of thinking, contributing to inefficient patterns of behavior. CBT places an emphasis on helping individuals learn to be their own therapists. Clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their own thinking and behavior patterns.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP can be understood as a collection of techniques and strategies for modeling excellence in order to promote positive changes in individuals. It involves analyzing and modeling strategies used by successful individuals and using them to reach your personal goals.

Psychodynamics

Psychodynamic therapy, also known as insight-oriented therapy, focuses on unconscious processes as they are manifested in a person’s present thinking and behavioral patterns. That deeper understanding facilitates resolution of issues previously inaccessible, and hence improvement of those inadequate patterns.

Insurance Information

We are in the Cigna and Medicare networks. However, the precise way in which an insurance company (Cigna or any other) may contribute to your therapy will always depend on the specific terms of your plan. We would be happy to verify those terms for you, if you provide us (by email to: paulolazarolcsw@gmail.com) with a copy of your insurance card (front and back) and your driver’s license. We will get back to you with the information as soon as possible within 48 hrs.

If, instead, you would like to contact your insurance company yourself, we would suggest that you ask them the following questions:

1. Is the psychotherapist Paulo Lazaro, LCSW, CBT, EMDR, NLP in my network? (for telehealth consultations and/or for both physical offices, the North Miami and the Coconut Grove one?)

2. What would be the specific contribution of my plan for “office visits, or telehealth consultations, outpatient, mental health treatment?” Would I be required to pay a co-pay? How much?

3. If my plan offers any contribution, how much could I expect to be reimbursed per visit (Examples of CPT codes: “90791,” “90837,” “90834″)

4. Do I need a pre-authorization?

5. Is there a maximum number of visits allowed? Is that based on a calendar year?

6. How much of my deductible have I reached? Is that based on a calendar year?

7. How long do I have to submit the claim after my visit, and what is the address to where I should send the claims?

8. What documents would I need to submit to the insurance company in order to be refunded?

9. How long would the reimbursement take?

10. Would the reimbursement come to me or to my therapist? If it goes to him, would I be informed of the payment?
